All that's left of Marge Kusulas' home is a pile of rubble. It burned to the ground after a train sparked a brush fire.
Kusula, 92, lived in Arvada near 80th and Simms. She had lived there for more than half a century.
The fire spread fast, but Marge doesn't move too fast these days. Still, she didn't panic.
"I don't do that," Marge says. "I'm not that way."
In fact, Marge didn't stay around to see her home of 62 years go up in flames. Her daughter took her home with her and she took a nap! Now she is counting her blessings.
"It's just worldly goods," says Marge. "You never saw U-Hauls with a person going to Heaven."
Marge says she loved where she lived because she felt closer to God. She also used to love the bumble of the trains that travel by her property.
Marge raised her four children in the home she lost and took care of many others. Her neighbors say Marge deserves some help, so CBS4 is paying it forward with $1,000 to help her get going again.
Marge hasn't had home owners insurance since the early 80's. Fire officials say the railroad has said it will compensate her for her loss.
Marge's only request is that she be able to live the rest of her days on her land, even if it's just in a trailer., vistas and her memories around.
