. Below lies CBS4's Nov. 20 report. DENVER (CBS4) - St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in southwest Denver is a large parish and the need is great. Those who volunteer in the church look to the saint the church is named after for guidance.
"This is St. Anthony's parish and St. Anthony was Saint of the poor," said church volunteer, Abilena Montoya.
Last year, the Church provided Thanksgiving meals for nearly 400 families including all the fixings and a gift certificate for a turkey. This year as the families in the parish struggle, so does the church. The senior ladies pray for new resources to meet the need.
"We've had a lot of new people coming in who did not have the need last year. It wasn't as bad last year as it is this year, so we were going to do whatever we could and still make it so that they can have a Thanksgiving dinner," Montoya said.
Two volunteers at the church are doing more than praying, they asked CBS4 to pay it forward -- $1,000 to help them help those who would have nothing this holiday season.
"Abilena's concern and mine is that these kids are not going to have Thanksgiving," said church volunteer, Gloria Meda-Birch.
Additional Resources St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church is at 3801 West Ohio Ave. in Denver if you'd like to make a donation.
