Steelers' Holmes Auctions Off Super Bowl Gloves

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (CBS) ― Since the inarguably greatest tip toe catch in Super Bowl history, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes hasn't slowed down, reports CBS station KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.

From Disney with his kids to late night talk shows, the demand for the Super Bowl MVP is overwhelming.

Holmes is now spending some time in New York and hasn't seen his family in about a week.

"It's very tough, 'cause I'm always in a studio doing the right thing I'm supposed to be doing. They understand it," he says. "It's about business right now. It's an extension of my season."

But Holmes says his 6-year-old is the major reason he is in the Big Apple. He son has Sickle Cell Disease, an incurable blood disease.

Holmes has teamed up with Reebok to auction off the gloves he wore when he caught the Super Bowl XLIII winning touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Sickle Cell Association.

"Maybe the expectancy is up to 20, maybe 30-years-old. And I know that my 6-year-old son has Sickle Cell," he says. "It's something we battle every day of his life."

By auctioning off the autographed gloves, Holmes says he is hoping to raise awareness and educate the country about the disease.

Of course, an interview with a Super Bowl MVP can't go on without talking about the game. The Steelers Nation was filled with angst and on the edge of their seats with the Arizona Cardinals up in the fourth quarter, but the players knew the game was within reach.

"We knew that with 2:37 on the clock, it was just enough time for Ben to work his magic. He had a lot of confidence going into that huddle, even going into that game," said Holmes.
