McCarthy: Marketing Deal For Favre A Good One

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) ― Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says a potential marketing contract for Brett Favre could offer both the star quarterback and the team a solution to their standoff over Favre's retirement.

Just months after quitting, Favre has been considering a comeback. But Green Bay hasn't been eager to have him back as its starter and doesn't want him to release him, either.

The marketing deal would reportedly be $20 million over 10 years. It would keep Favre from causing a ruckus by reporting to Packers training camp and might end his bid to come back. Favre confirmed he was considering the deal to ESPN Thursday.

McCarthy says "Brett needs to stay a part of football" and that "obviously, he's a part of the Green Bay Packers."
