A neurologist said repeated batterings in the ring may help explain why pro wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife, son and himself in their Georgia home.
A doctor from the Waltham, Mass.-based Sports Legacy Institute, studied samples of Benoit's brain and said the damage he suffered can cause depression and irrational behavior. Dr. Julian Bailes said the brain showed the same degenerative processes that doctors have found in the brains of three NFL players who committed suicide.
But, he says there is no way to know for sure if the brain damage caused the murder-suicide back in June.
And the question of what role steroids played has still not been answered. Testing showed Benoit had roughly 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he died.
