Solar Powered 'Zap Zebra' Virtually Free To Drive
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Gas prices are slowly settling down, but interest in alternative vehicles continues to rise.
One of those new cars is called the "Zap Zebra." Bill Blanning of Denver has one and loves it.
It's a three-wheeled car that runs on batteries. Blanning charges his Zap Zebra using power generated by the solar panels on the top of his house. So he's basically driving around for free.
"We had the solar panels on the house and I figured since we had all that free energy we might as well be using it to drive around the city," Blanning said.
The car goes about 40 miles per charge at speeds of about 40 miles an hour.
Blanning said he gets plenty of stares.
"Everywhere we go we get a thumbs up from people," Blanning said.
The Zap cars are made in China and sell for about $10,000.
