Colorado DA Dies After Mountain Bike Accident
DURANGO, Colo. (AP) ―
La Plata County District Attorney Craig Westberg has died from injuries he suffered in a mountain biking accident in Arizona. He was 64.
The Maricopa County, Ariz., coroner's office says Westberg died Wednesday.
Nancy Hoyt, the Westberg family's spokeswoman, says he died in a Scottsdale, Ariz., hospital with his family and his dog at his side.
Westberg's term expires next week and he did not run for re-election.
He served more than 24 years as a prosecutor in the 6th Judicial District covering La Plata, Archuleta and San Juan counties. He previously served as DA from 1977 to 1981.
Todd Risberg was elected in November to succeed him. Risberg was sworn in as a deputy DA on Monday to help out until he takes office next week.
