Car Hits Coal Train In Northern Weld County

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) ― The Colorado State Patrol says alcohol is suspected as a factor in a collision between a car and a coal train about two miles south of Nunn.

Authorities say the man was southbound on U.S. 85 in a Saturn about 5 a.m. Thursday when he apparently fell asleep and drifted off the road.

Ault police say the man overcorrected. The car began to roll and the unrestrained driver was ejected before the Saturn rolled into a Union Pacific train.

Authorities say the car hit the 20th car from the end of the 101-car train.

The 48-year-old motorist has a driver's license from Pittsburgh, Pa. The Saturn is registered to an address in Cheyenne, Wyo.

The man was taken to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley in critical condition.

His name hasn't been released.
