A 16-year-old boy accused in a fatal shooting in the Fort Lupton area in Weld County has been charged as an adult.
Alonzo Rodriguez-Lopez appeared in court Monday. He and his father both faced charges after their 43-year-old neighbor Hugo Botello-Gonzalez was killed and the victim's 45-year-old wife, Olga Torrez, was wounded last month.
Authorities say the double shooting appeared to have been sparked by the families' ongoing argument over the victims' dogs chasing chickens and horses owned by the suspect's family.
"A physical fight began over the same issue of dogs killing the chickens and that then led to a handgun being pulled and shots being fired," said Margie Martinez, Weld County Undersheriff.
Authorities are still looking for the teen's father, Jose Rodriguez. Anyone with information about Rodriguez's whereabouts is urged to call the Weld County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
