Record Setting Fishermen Meet Ritter
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Three friends met Gov. Bill Ritter Monday to brag about their record setting trout fish catches. The latest big catch weighed in at 50 pounds.
"I've been fishing for the trophy fish about 20 years," said Don Walker.
Walker said he was able to reel in the record setter last year, with his wife's help.
Walker's brother-in-law, Larry Cornell, held the previous record with a 47 pound catch.
And their friend Matt Smiley had a record setting catch in 2003 with a 44 pound trout.
Ritter has an invitation to fish with the men anytime at the Blue Mesa Reservoir in Gunnison County. That's where all the record setting fish were caught.
"There are fish that during the summer months go really deep and I think that's what protects them," said Walker.
The fishermen believe the record setting fishes were 30-years-old. They were all caught with a bait cast rod and reel.
