Growing business and creating jobs were the two key topics at CBS4's Beating The Recession Town Hall Meeting on Monday.
The hour-long meeting at Smoky Hill Middle School in Aurora was broadcast live on CBS4 and livestreamed on cbs4denver.com. It brought out people with real live problems that need solving and experts to answer them.
Some of those attending included people who were recently laid off, a woman getting married in June and others wanting to know more about real estate and finding bargains.
Their questions brought answers from a panel of experts. They gave examples of ways to cut back and how to get rid of some things.
"Just little things like buying coffee every morning," said Susie Johnston, a certified financial planner.
"With groceries, instead of going once a week, try going twice a week," said expert bargain hunter Janet Simons.
The experts say it's all about planning and knowing where your money is going.
"Just put an index card in your pocket and take it with you everywhere you go," said Johnston. "Then at home show your kids so you see what you spent this month on burgers."
Jacqueline Stallman had a question about real estate. She heard from the state's head of the division of real estate, Erin Toll, about how to check out a realtor.
Other experts on the panel were career counselor Andrew Hudson and realtor Wayne Herman.
CBS4 plans to hold more Beating The Recession Town Hall Meetings in the future. Stay tuned for an announcement about the next announcement and its location.
