2 Cab Companies Protest Cherry Creek Mall's Action
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Dozens of taxi drivers say they are getting kicked out of the Cherry Creek Mall just in time for the busy holiday shopping season.
Drivers from Freedom and Union taxi services rallied in front of the mall on Saturday.
They are upset that the mall signed an exclusive deal with two competing cab companies.
The deal only lets Yellow and Metro cabs pick up shoppers in the taxi lanes.
"We feel it limits consumers' choice. Freedom taxi and Union taxi are the only minority owned taxi companies in Denver, so that concerns us," one protestor told CBS4.
A spokesman for the mall denies that race played a factor in the decision.
He said something had to be done to restrict the number of taxis waiting outside because they were becoming a traffic issue.
