Nichols Won't Get Lawyer For Suit Over Prison Food

DENVER (AP) ― A judge has denied a request by Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols for a court-appointed lawyer to help him with a lawsuit complaining about prison food.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Craig B. Shaffer ruled Wednesday that the Constitution doesn't guarantee lawyers in civil suits.

Nichols claims in his suit filed in March that the federal Supermax prison in Colorado is causing him to "sin against God" because he doesn't get enough whole grains and fresh food.

Nichols is serving life for conspiracy and involuntary manslaughter in the 1995 federal building bombing that killed 168 people. Timothy McVeigh was convicted of murder and executed.
