Despite the snow, Lone Tree resident try out a brand new recreation facility with six tennis courts. The courts are so new, crews are putting the final touches on them.
"The voters made this happen," said Jim Gunning, mayor of Lone Tree.
Two years ago, the voters passed a ballot initiative agreeing to pay higher sales tax until several recreation projects were paid for. They raised money for the tennis facility, built an outdoor pool, and created a park on what was once a vacant lot. Prairie Sky Park includes brand new basketball courts, playground equipment, a baseball diamond, and a multi-use field.
"It's really an honor and a privilege to be a mayor in a city where the residents are so active and so involved," Gunning told CBS4.
The Park was finished in August, the tennis facility is just now complete. The city is ready for recreation.
"Recreation is an important value in Lone Tree and we have spent a lot of time trying to improve it," Gunning added.
