Boulder's Pearl Street Mall Gets New Strip Club
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ―
Boulder's Pearl Street mall is known for stores that market environmental items, things from Tibet and bohemian gifts.
But if you go down a stairway behind Old Chicago you can find a new and different kind of business -- a strip club.
The Nitro Club has been open for at least a week, but it is rarely seen by holiday and other shoppers because it is off the beaten path.
Some Boulder City Council members say a strip club has no place on the Pearl Street Mall. Mayor Shawn McGrath and City Council didn't even know about it because the club never applied for a liquor license and because its entrance is in a back alley.
Boulder doesn't have an ordinance regulating sexually oriented businesses, but McGrath thinks that policy should be looked at more closely.
"We need to have a conversation about it," McGrath said. "If we want these kinds of businesses, then where is an appropriate place for them?"
The Rocky Mountain News said the club's owner refused to give his name but said the reception so far has been entirely positive.
