Colorado Wraps Up First Highway Stimulus Project

LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) ― Colorado has wrapped up its first highway project financed with federal stimulus dollars with about a half-million to spare.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said Thursday that the one-mile repaving project in Littleton was finished in a month. Engineers had estimated the job would cost $1.2 million but the winning bid came in at nearly half that -- $678,000.

Department spokeswoman Mindy Crane said the savings will be pooled with other money saved on jobs in the Denver area and spent on more stimulus projects. Colorado's $400 million in highway stimulus money was divided by among the state's six transportation regions.
