Skiing, Snowboarding Could Be Official State Sport
DENVER (CBS) ―
They are already the unofficial favorites, now skiing and snowboarding may soon be the official winter sports of Colorado. It's the mission of a 10-year-old boy from Lakewood who loves to ski.
William Kane was at the Capitol Monday when Rep. Gwyn Green announced she'll sponsor the legislation.
William and his twin brother gathered more than 80 signatures from classmates at Dennison Elementary. He got the idea for an official state sport at school one day.
"I was studying Colorado history one day with my fourth grade class and I discovered there was no state sport in Colorado," he said. "So I thought why not be skiing."
William's class also wrote letters to state representatives and senators in support of the measure.
