Snowstorm Blasts Mountains, Denver PM Showers

DENVER (CBS4) ― A witner storm hit the Colorado mountains Friday, closings highways at times for avalanche control. Up to two feet of snow is possible in some areas through Friday evening. Denver will likely see some rain or snow showers Friday afternoon and evening.

A winter storm warning or snow advisory was in effect for most mountain locations in Colorado on Friday. Eight inches of snow was reported at the Eisenhower Tunnel Friday morning.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said Loveland Pass, Vail Pass and Berthoud Pass were all opened after avalanche control closed those areas on Interstate 70 earlier Friday morning. Chain restrictions remained in place for the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass.

There was a slight chance of rain or snow showers in the Denver area early Friday. Rain and snow were appearing on radar south of the metro area around the Palmer Divide and Colorado Springs.

Denver is forecast to have daytime highs in the upper 40s with cloudy skies before a chance for rain and snow showers moves in during the late afternoon. Rain will likely turn to snow in the evening and chances for showers continue overnight into Saturday morning with lows in the mid 20s.

Saturday will bring sunny skies and clearing with highs in the 40s.

Sunday will see highs near 50 before a chance of rain or snow moves in during the afternoon hours. Snow is forecast to intensify in the evening Sunday and continue through Monday morning. The Monday commute could be diffcult.

Monday's forecast high is expected to be near 40.
