Vets Group Criticizes Schaffer On Oil, Iraq

DENVER (AP) ― A group that says it represents veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars has criticized GOP Senate candidate Bob Schaffer's work in Iraq for an oil company.

Jon Soltz, chairman of VoteVets.org, said Wednesday he went to war in Iraq for his country and that Schaffer used the conflict for profit. He says when Schaffer was in the U.S. House before the war, he did little to help veterans.

Schaffer spokesman Dick Wadhams says three of Schaffer's children are preparing for military duty and that VoteVets.org owes Schaffer an apology.

Wadhams says group members have appeared recently with Democratic leaders, and he called on them to disclose their donors.

Soltz says the group is bipartisan and gets its funding from veterans.
