Ritter Reacts To Governor's Mansion Party Pics

Written by Rick Sallinger, rsallinger@cbs.com

DENVER (CBS4) ― Gov. Bill Ritter said Friday his son acted responsibly planning a party at the private residence inside the Governor's Mansion last month. Pictures from the party were posted to Facebook and published in the Denver Post Thursday.

Ritter said the pictures of the lively party that included kegs of beer and drinking games were "unflattering."

The governor's son August is 22-years-old and Ritter said his son made sure that everyone at the party was of legal drinking age. August Ritter also arranged for taxi cabs so people could safely travel to LoDo, the governor said. There were also arrangements so that people could stay the night if necessary.

"It is my family home," Bill Ritter told CBS4.

Ritter said he did talk to his children about remembering that the First Family is in the public eye and is held to a higher standard.

"Things that they do that other kids may be considered normal behavior will still be viewed with a different eye," Ritter said.

The governor said the pictures were actually from two different events. His wife Jeannie was home for one and he was there for the other.

The Post reported that some of the pictures were taken on the 100-year-old mansion's first floor, which is filled with historic art and antiques, and in the basement.
