Black Hawk Chopper Crew Assists In Rescue Effort

Small Plane Crashes Into Mountain In Gilpin County, Leaving 1 Dead, 1 Injured

BLACK HAWK, Colo. (CBS4) ― A Colorado National Guard Black Hawk helicopter was assisting with rescue efforts Thursday night in Gilpin County after a small plane crashed into a remote mountain slope, killing the pilot. A passenger survived but was hurt.

The plane went down at about 4 p.m. and someone on the plane called emergency dispatchers.

Copter4 video early Thursday evening showed a small white plane that had crashed halfway up a mountain above Miner's Gulch Road, near Black Hawk.

Authorities said the plane was apparently headed for an airport in Boulder.
There are reports the plane was headed from Glenwood Springs to Boulder so those on board could attend graduation ceremonies at the University of Colorado.

As part of the recovery effort, the Black Hawk helicopter crew lowered a ladder to the survivor. The 23-year-old survivor was then airlifted to St. Anthony's Central hospital.

The names of the victims have not been released.
