Family Of Boy Taped To Bench Settles Lawsuit

WIGGINS, Colo. (AP) ― The attorney for the family of a teenager whose wrestling coach taped him to a weightlifting bench for more than an hour says the lawsuit against the teacher has been settled.

Attorney Pete Ramirez says coach Jon Penfold will pay for part of the settlement and the school district's insurance will pay a part for Dave Croissant, another wrestling coach who stood by while the taping happened two years ago.

Authorities said Wiggins High School wrestler Chance Robinson was bound with athletic tape to the bench for 90 minutes after his behavior on a bus. Robinson was 13 at the time.

Penfold was convicted of false imprisonment and was given a 90-day suspended sentence and a $300 fine.

Robinson's family sued Penfold and Croissant.

The settlement amount was not disclosed.
