Parr Home On Auction Block With Unusual Conditions

DENVER (CBS4) ― It was tragic news last Christmas. John Parr, Sandy Widener and their daughter Chase had died on an icy highway in Wyoming. Their other daughter Katy survived.

Parr and Widener were well-known power brokers in Colorado political and journalism circles. Now, nearly six months after their dieath, a realtor friend of the family is selling their home, but with some unusual conditions.

"This is beautiful space for anybody who would like to move in and have old world charm of yesterday and the modern amenities of today," realtor Sonja Leonard Leonard said.

Instead of putting the house on an already crowded market, Leonard Leonard is accepting sealed bids on the house. On Wednesday at 5 p.m. she will open the bids and someone will get the charmer located in the heart of the 7th Avenue Historic District.

"The house was built in 1915 … and it's an art and crafts story house," Leonard Leonard said. "The beamed ceilings are very indicative of that era and the natural wood is something that buyers today love."

With 3,000 square feet, five bedrooms and three baths it was, and is a perfect family home.

"Lots and lots of parties were held here; lots of fun was had," Leonard Leonard said.

Last winter, hundreds gathered to grieve for the family. Today, they are still returning to the house.

"People came back to say goodbye to the house," she said. "Lots of tears, lots of laughs, lots of memories."

One memory will go to Katy, who is overseas for the summer.

"It's her mother's desk," Leonard Leonard said.

The artwork in the house was done by internationally-known painter Lee Lee Leonard. She is donating part of the proceeds from art sales to Parr family charities.
