The district attorney for Arapahoe County says she is satisfied with the death sentence given to Sir Mario Owens.
On Monday, a jury sentenced Owens to death for the murder of potential witness Javad Marshall-Fields and his fiancée Vivian Wolfe. The two were shot to death in their car more than three years ago.
District Attorney Carol Chambers told the CBS4 Morning News Tuesday that the circumstances of the case forced her office to seek the death penalty.
"The death penalty is something the community imposes," Chambers explained. "We seek it but prosecutors don't impose it
our response from [the community] has been in our jury questionnaires. In this case, we saw 90 to 95 percent of the jurors in Arapahoe Country
favored the death penalty in some circumstances."
Chambers also said that she would like to find some way of controlling the cost of death penalty cases in Colorado while simultaneously ensuring that innocent persons are not put to death.
