Colorado Tickets For Obama Speech Are Gone

Officials Start A Wait List For Colorado Residents Interested In Attending

 Section: Democratic National Convention Section
DENVER (CBS4) ― More than 60,000 Colorado residents have applied for tickets to Barack Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field at Mile High since Wednesday's big announcement.

Democratic officials sent out a news release Thursday afternoon saying people who apply for tickets now will be placed on a wait list.

Half of the seats at the stadium at the Aug. 28 speech during the Democratic National Convention will go to Colorado residents, regardless of which party affiliation they hold.

The Obama Campaign said it wants a full house and will apparently ask people to prove they can attend the event before they get a ticket.

Attendees will also be put to work beforehand. They'll reportedly be asked to take part in a massive phone bank to get out the vote for Obama.

Because of security concerns, people going to the speech will need to arrive between Noon and 2 p.m. on Aug. 28. Obama won't speak until 8 p.m.

Those who signed up for tickets in the 24 hour period before the wait list announement was made will be notified by email or a phone whether they received a ticket on Aug. 15. Those who were not selected will also be placed on the waiting list.

Officials said each ticket has a bar code that will need to be activated by the intended user. In an effort to prevent scalping, any ticket that shows up for sale somewhere will be immediately deactivated.

They said each bar code can be traced to the person who is supposed to have the ticket.
