The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Wednesday that more than half of the seats at Invesco Field for Barack Obama's acceptance speech will go to residents of Colorado. Pepsi Center delegates will also get seats and their credentials will move over to Invesco Field.
The committee also said over two-thirds of the seats will go to people from the Rocky Mountain West.
As of Wednesday night, 20,000 people had already signed up for a ticket.
Gov. Bill Ritter and Former Denver Mayor Federico Pena spoke at the announcement.
"We want to announce right now, start making your calls immediately, go online immediately, those sites are now open," Pena said. "It will be first come, first serve and you basically have six days to do it because on the 18th, we are basically going to start making decisions of who will be given the opportunity to participate."
As many as 75,000 people could hear the speech in person at the football stadium.
The Obama Campaign said it wants a full house and will apparently ask people to prove they can attend the event before getting a ticket.
Attendees will also be put to work beforehand. They'll reportedly be asked to take part in a massive phone bank to get out the vote for Obama.
Because of security concerns, people going to the speech will need to arrive between Noon and 2 p.m. on Aug. 28. Obama won't speak until 8 p.m.
To get a ticket to the event, go to co.barackobama.com/invesco or call (888) 468-7404 or visit a campaign office from now until Aug. 12.
Those who signed up will be notified by email or a phone whether they received a ticket on Aug. 15. Those who were not selected will be placed on a waiting list.
"We are inviting not just Democrats, but Republicans and Independents to join us on Thursday night," Pena said.
Officials said each ticket has a bar code that will need to be activated by the intended user. In an effort to prevent scalping, any ticket that shows up for sale somewhere will be immediately deactivated.
They said each bar code can be traced to the person who is supposed to have the ticket.
