Nancy Pelosi In Denver For Book Signing
DENVER (CBS4) ―
It's been 100 years since women first cast their ballots in an election. But a century later, millions of women are passing on their right to vote.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was in Denver Wednesday for a book signing. She's trying to encourage more women to be active in the November election.
Pelosi held the signing at the Tattered Cover bookstore in LoDo. There were long lines with some people spending hours to ensure themselves a spot in the presentation room.
Pelosi is a role model for many of the people who attended the signing and the League of Women Voters hopes she will inspire many women to vote. The group says 35 million eligible women did not vote in the last presidential election. Despite that, the group says women typically outnumber male voters by a small margin. This year is no exception, with a lot of issues on the ballot important to women and their families.
"The economy, things that affect your pocketbook, how they take care of their family and healthcare are certainly big issues for women," Gerry Cummins with the League of Women Voters said.
On the second day of the Democratic National Convention, Pelosi will join Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton to celebrate the role of women in the political arena.
