COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ―

A U.S. Army soldier out of Fort Carson who suffered a brain injury in Baghdad last summer has died at a Maryland hospital, the Defense Department said Tuesday.

Sgt. Mikeal Wayne Miller, 22, died Sunday at the National Naval Medical Center in Maryland.

Miller was hurt when the vehicle he was in was hit by a roadside bomb July 9 in Baghdad, the Defense Department said.

Miller, of Albany, Ore., was a member of the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division.

Karen Linne, a spokeswoman for Fort Carson said Miller entered the Army in August 2003, a few months after his graduation from South Albany High School.
