A 27-year-old Sheridan High School teacher accused of having a sexual encounter with a male student was sentenced to 8 years of sex offender intensive supervision probation on Tuesday.
Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey had charged Melissa Snow with three counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, with one of those charges alleging a pattern of behavior.
According to a news release from Morrissey's office, Snow was arrested Nov. 5, 2008 after a joint investigation by the Denver and Sheridan police departments found probable cause to believe that she had sexually assaulted a student more than once at a Denver location.
Denver district attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said the student is a teenager, but that authorities have decided not to release his specific age in an effort to protect his identity.
Snow, a former English teacher, has taught all grades of students at Sheridan High School since she began working there in fall 2005, according to the school district. The school has about 500 students.
