Completing a marathon is a big accomplishment for anyone, especially for a child. More than 1,500 children did just that in downtown Denver on Saturday for the McDonalds Mile.
The pint-sized runners came from 31 schools across the state and consumed Civic Center Park.
As the students from Deane Elementary stretched out in preparation of their last mile of their marathon journey, they reflected on the past 8 weeks.
"We've jogged and we've exercised," a student said.
It's been a long journey for all of the young people, running a few miles each week at their school -- 25 miles total.
The final mile came Saturday in downtown Denver to complete their marathon challenge.
"There were kids that started out that were walking most of the time in the beginning and now they're running," a teacher said.
The McDonalds Mile was about getting kids excited about running and setting fitness goals -- goals they accomplished and they received a reward for their hard work.
Colorado's largest kids running race was a success for everyone who crossed the finish line and enjoyed every step of the way.
