A Colorado Department of Transportation worker helped save the life of a man found beaten and abandoned in a snow drift in Gilpin County Wednesday morning. Police in Thornton said the man was reportedly attacked and left for dead after responding to an ad on Craigslist.
The man was unconscious and the Gilpin County Sheriff's Office says he was dumped in a snow drift on Highway 72, west of Coal Creek Canyon.
Chris Brewer, a CDOT driver, saw the victim near mile marker 22 along the highway walking in the middle of the road wearing only his long underwear. The victim said several cars passed him, ignoring his signals for help.
"His hands I noticed, what was more noticeable to me was all the bumps on his head," Brewer said. "He had big rising bumps on the top of his head like he'd been hit with something pretty hard."
The man is recovering in the hospital.
He told Brewer he had answered a woman's ad on Craigslist for a dog kennel. He said he met the woman three times at different locations.
The last meeting was at a home in Thornton where he reports being beaten by someone who put a bag over his head and dumped him on the side of the road in Coal Creek Canyon.
"Somebody jumped out of the closet and started beating him, and all he remembers is being knocked out, and then they tied him up in the shower and beat him some more," Brewer recounts the man telling him.
Thornton police are working to find the location of the last home where the man was at.
They are also asking for anyone with information about the beating to contact them.

After watching your newscast last night about a man who had been beaten due to an encounter with someone he found through Craig's list and personally trying to be scammed from buyers on the internet (specifically Craig's list), I don't know why more isn't being done for internet users to easily report scams that they encounter online. I think more police resources should be used to fight this kind of crime on the internet to make it a safer way for people to do business. People have tried to scam me several times already...some less believeable than others, but the threat is there and seems to be very prominent. It makes me wonder if in a few years it will be so filled with scams that people will shy away from doing business on the internet. If more resources were put into making it safe I think it can remain to be a great resource for people.
