Plane Crashes In Garfield County, Killing 2

MACK, Colo. (AP) ― Investigators say two men were killed when a single-engine plane crashed near the Colorado-Utah border.

Two people were also injured in a separate crash Monday in southern Colorado.

Garfield County sheriff's spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said Monday the victims are Charles Landry of Houston, born in 1947, and Steven Bartlett of Green River, Wyo., born in 1958.

McGinnis says they were the only people on board. It's not yet clear which man was flying the plane.

A motorist found the wreckage of the four-seat Grumman Cheetah on Sunday about 40 miles northwest of Grand Junction and 210 miles west of Denver.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are expected to take over the investigation on Monday.

In Pueblo, Colo., Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says a single-engine plane carrying two people crashed about a quarter mile from the airport. Kenitzer says there was substantial damage to the plane and the two people suffered serious injuries.

No other details were available.
