Thousands Of Dead Trees Cut Down
by Andrea Lopez
FRISCO, Colo. (CBS4) ―
The landscape around Summit County could look a little different this summer for people who head up to the mountains. Thousands of dead trees have been cut down.
Pine beetles have been blamed for killing the trees. Towns and residents started cutting them down to prevent other trees from getting infected.
People who live in Wildnernest said more than half of the trees there have died or are dying.
The trees have also been cut down because they're a fire danger since they burn faster than trees that are alive.
Frisco planned to cut down 9,000 trees over the next 10 years. Dillon hoped to cut down 1,100 trees by this summer.
The tree cutting program can be expensive. Frisco expected to spend $75,000 to $85,000 a year to tackle the problem.
