Group Celebrates Earth Day Cleaning Platte River

DENVER (CBS4) ― Some people celebrated the 38th Annual Earth Day by cleaning up the Platte River.

Many went into the river using kayaks, rafts and open canoes to gather trash and collect litter from the water. Others chose to walk or bike to help tidy up the banks.

"It tends to accumulate just being in an urban corridor," Mark Cohen, who helped organize the event, said. "It's nice to be able to clean it up. In Confluence Park, it's apparent how the trash accumulates, so we all need to just keep it out of the river.

The Front Range Paddling Association along with several other local businesses helped organize Sunday's cleanup event.
