Denver Has Scanners To Search For Stolen Cars

DENVER (CBS4) ― Denver police said they now have some extra eyes out looking for stolen and wanted cars.

The city now has two parking enforcement vehicles equipped with cameras that snap pictures of 10,000 to 12,000 license plates every hour.

The cameras are plugged in to a computer database and when a wanted or stolen vehicle's plate comes up, police are immediately notified to come out.

Handheld devices used by parking enforcement officers are also connected to the crime database.
