Homeless Man Sues Police After Alleged Dog Attack
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) ―
A homeless man is suing the Lakewood Police Department because he says a police dog attacked him in an alley.
Edward Trujillo's attorney said officers were looking for a suspect and let the dog run loose, not knowing Trujillo was in the alley.
The lawyer said Trujillo may have been attacked by mistake, but police should still be held accountable.
"His face was ripped apart," said David Lane, Trujillo's attorney. "He had dozens and dozens of stitches, his leg was ripped apart. All because he was homeless scrounging for food in an alleyway and the police officers couldn't be bothered to check to see if it was safe to unleash a police dog."
Police said the department cannot comment on a pending lawsuit.
