Suspicious Activity On Dillon Dam Was Video Shoot
DILLON, Colo. (CBS4) ―
Some "suspicious activity" atop Dillon Dam turned out to be two men who said they were filming a music video, authorities said.
Summit County sheriff's deputies investigated the men on Tuesday after they were spotted on foot on the 6,000-foot-long dam when the road was closed because of bad weather.
The Denver Water Board, which operates the dam and reservoir, decided to keep the road closed at least until next week because of the investigation.
Deputies said the two men were cooperative and agreed to let deputies view the video they had shot and search their car, which they had parked at the dam's east gate. Deputies said the men were from Denver, but their names weren't released.
Denver Water Board spokeswoman Trina McGuire-Collier said utility officials would assess "safety and security risks" next week before deciding on reopening the road.
The earthen dam, in the mountains 60 miles west of Denver, is 230 feet high at its tallest point.
The reservoir behind it has a surface area of up to 5 square miles and can hold up to 82 billion gallons of water. It is a popular site for fishing, boating and camping.
