Judge Raises Bond For Baskin Robbins Crash Suspect

AURORA, Colo. (AP/CBS4) ― A judge has raised the bond to $250,000 for a man accused in a hit-and-run crash that killed three people at a Baskin Robbins ice cream store near the intersection of Havana and Mississippi.

Francis Hernandez, 23, appeared in an Arapahoe County courtroom Monday to be advised that he is being held on three counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and hit and run.

Aurora police say Hernandez was the driver of an SUV that crashed into a pickup and shoved it into the Aurora store last Thursday. Two women in the pickup (Patricia Guntharp and Debra Serecky) died instantly, and Marten Kudlis, 3, who was in the store, died later at a hospital.

Defense attorney Kallman Elinoff said Hernandez is distraught over the deaths.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have issued a hold for Hernandez, who will be formally charged on Thursday.

Outside the Baskin Robbins a memorial that was set up to remember the victims has continued to grow with contributions.

Since the accident people have come to pay their respects to all of the victims.

Some people visiting the memorial, such as Don Selch, are voicing strong opinions about the man police say is responsible for the deaths.

"The man who did this had been arrested 16 times. Everything about him seem to be fraudulent -- where he was born, his license, insurance, they hardly know anything about him. Why he was out driving on the street? I have no idea."

It's unclear if Hernandez is a U.S. citizen, according to a report in the Rocky Mountain News.
