VFW Post To Hold Auction For Wounded Soldier
Commerce City Group Accepts Donations For Fundraiser
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) ―
A veterans' group in Commerce City is collecting donations for an auction next weekend that will benefit a paralyzed Iraqi war vet.
Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Keil has been featured on CBS4 for months. He's recovering at Craig Hospital after being shot in the neck by a sniper.
The members at VFW Post 4444 have been preparing to auction donated items for weeks.
"Don't try to buy something cheap, bring your heart down here when you come, then you'll know what it's all about," said Joe Golden of the VFW Post. "Because Matthew and Tracy (Matthew's wife) are both going to be here, make them proud."
"I just think it's amazing that they're willing to do this for us," said Matthew Keil. "And I mean, were weren't even living up here before the injury and it's a very nice welcome to the Denver area."
The Keil's are planning to move into a home in Parker soon. The donated items and proceeds from the auction will help at the house.
The auction will be Saturday, Sept. 15, at the VFW Post 4444. The address is 5421 E. 71st Ave. in Commerce City. The auction is from 7 a.m. to Noon.
Donations will be accepted at the post every day this week from Noon until 7 p.m.
