It was one year ago that Jim Lewin was nearly killed as he crossed a street in Littleton with his family. This Thanksgiving weekend, the Lewins are together again giving renewed thanks for the simplest pleasures, after a tough year.
"I can walk pretty good now without the cane," said Jim Lewin. He and his granddaughter, Sarah, are learning to walk, together.
Last year at this time, the Lewin family had traveled to downtown Littleton for the annual Christmas tree lighting. "I can't remember the accident. I go by what people say," said Lewin.
Lewin was pushing Sarah, then just 11 days old, through an intersection when a car raced through a red light. "So thankful she wasn't injured," said Lewin.
Carol said her husband, Jim, pushed Sarah's stroller out of the way before he was run down by the car. Sarah was fine, but Jim was not expected to live. "Traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, broken nose, dissected artery," said Lewin.
"I feel pretty good considering the circumstances," said Lewin. Together Grandpa Jim and Sarah take slow and cautious steps. "I'm really tickled that she's coming along so well and I'm tickled I've come along so well," said Lewin.
CBS4 Paid It 4ward to Jim Lewin last year to help offset the costs of his hospitalization and physical therapy. Now, Lewin is looking for an opportunity to
Pay It 4ward to someone else going through a difficult time.
