Hundreds rallied Saturday at the State Capitol, demonstrating in support of those fighting election fraud in Iran. The rally was to support the protestors and their right to demonstrate without fear of persecution.
A group of more than 200 people gathered on the Capitol steps to support the people of Iran, a fair election and the right to protest.
People at the rally chanted, "Where's my vote?"
"I think people here want for them in Iran what we have here, which is freedom and the ability to cast our vote and ability to have our voices heard," attendee Ali S. said,
Voices yelling for freedom, like one man who said, "Freedom to choose, freedom to live, freedom to defy."
"We believe there should be freedom in Iran, that people should get the chance to go in the street and protest against what they believe is wrong," rally co-organizer Mahdi Z. said.
Even in America, in the land of the free, many of the demonstrators covered their faces fearing they may be recognized and their relatives still living in Iran would be punished.
"A lot of people here have contact in Iran, have family in Iran, they travel back and forth, they have businesses in Iran," Ali S. said.
A few at the rally had their own agendas and came to protest the Iranian government. Others came to protest the protest, which led to a scuffle that police quickly broke up. But overall the message was one of support.
"It's not just for Iranian people or Iranian government, this is for human rights," Susan B. said.
"You see the headband -- freedom -- that's what I'm asking for here," Mahdi Z. said.
Those at the rally say the best case scenario would be for Iran to have another free election to replace the one so many believe was rigged.
