Denver University Panel To Study Immigration

The University of Denver says its Strategic Issues Program will focus on immigration next year and make recommendations on issues ranging from illegal immigration to the impact of immigration on the economy.

Chancellor Robert Coombe said Friday immigration is one of the top issues facing the state, and solutions will require a consensus from community and political leaders.

Study participants include former state Agriculture Secretary Don Ament, former state Sen. Polly Baca, Durango Herald publisher Richard Ballantine and Miller Coors Brewing Co. executive Pete Coors.

They will begin work in January and issue a report at the end of next year.

The Strategic Issues Program investigates major problems facing the state. Past topics include the economy, water and constitutional reform.
