DA: JeffCo Residents Were Part Of ID Theft Ring

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) ― Eight people have been indicted in connection with an identity theft ring, the Jefferson County District Attorney said Monday.

The suspects range in age from 19 to 37. Along with accusations of identity theft, the suspects are also believed to be involved in drugs, Scott Storey, the Jefferson County District Attorney said.

"I say that identity theft and meth are two peas in the same pod," Storey said.

He called the indictments a heavy hit and alleges the suspects operated a criminal enterprise. They also face racketeering charges.

Storey works that now one is safe from becoming an identity theft victim.

"I know it sounds paranoid, but you have to be somewhat paranoid today," he said.

Storey said he personally delivers all his bills to the post office to avoid mail theft. He also watches a server at restaurants when he hands over his credit card to make sure it is swiped and then brought back to him.
