FIRESTONE, Colo. (CBS4) ― The recent playoffs success of the Colorado Rockies has inevitably led to an increased interest in team memorabilia among longtime fans or fans who are just jumping on the bandwagon for the first time.

eBay seller and Firestone resident Jennifer Hovden is hoping she'll cash in on that interest by listing perhaps the strangest Rockies-related item you'll come across on the auction site: left fielder Matt Holliday's used sunflower seeds.

"There's so much weird stuff listed on eBay, I thought this was my chance at it, Hovden told the Denver Daily News.

Hovden collected the seeds after attendees of the Sept. 28 matchup against the Diamondbacks were let onto the field for a fireworks show. According to the description on the eBay listing, she scooped the "genuine one-of-a-kind collector's items" right off the field.

"A friend and I collected these seeds from the area where Holliday had spent a good part of the game," she writes. "Of course there's the chance that some belong to the Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder. ... I suppose you could ask Matt to submit to a DNA test but I'm not sure he would oblige."

An interesting post on the listing comes from another Rockies fan who apparently was also collecting chewed-up and spat-out sunflower seeds, but would not be selling them. That person indicates that the Diamondbacks left fielder chews gum, so Hovden's seeds are certain to be ones that once resided in Holliday's mouth.

"A bit gross? Maybe... Just a little vile? Yeah, I guess so. But I'm a single mom on a shoestring budget and I had to give it a shot!" the description states.

Shortly before noon on Tuesday the item had 10 bids with the highest being for $10.69.

Sunflower seeds gained popularity in Major League Baseball in the 90s as an alternative to chewing gum and tobacco. Several major leaguers have wound up with health problems from smokeless tobacco products, including former player Bill Tuttle who died from cancer after losing his jawbone, his right cheekbone, a lot of his teeth and gum line from a tumor.
