A Denver gun "buy back" effort has turned into a gun "give back."
Other cities have raised enough money to entice people to turn in their guns for cash, but since a plea to Denver businesses to fund a "buy back" failed, plans have changed.
Local ministers and community activists are now saying morality has to trump money to save lives.
"There's a problem in our community because too many of our young men and some of our young women are dying by guns, so we are appealing to those who recognize the good we are trying to do," Rev. Patrick Gimmer of Graham Memorial Community Church said.
The gun giving back effort will be held on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at New Covenant Church, located at the corner of 8th and Holly.
