Game Of Hide-And-Seek Helps Family Beat Recession
DENVER (CBS4) ―
There's a worldwide game of hide-and-seek going on all around us. While it's like the old-fashioned game, free, fun, and family friendly, there's a modern twist.
It's called Geocaching. All you need is a GPS and a Geocaching application that you download onto your smart phone.
Once you enter the local zip code into that application, you'll most likely find dozens of caches hidden in your area.
The Laxson family has made Geocaching a hobby. They're approaching 1,800 finds since they joined the game in 2005.
The family of five includes three young searchers, Timmy, 7, Joey, 10, and Jadey, 2.
"It's a free activity and it's a choice between watching another episode of cartoons and getting outside and going for a little hike," said dad Chris Laxson.
Geocaching has taken the Laxson family all over the US. They've cached their way to the four corners and climbed to the tops of mountains. Dad swam across the Poudre River and the whole family hiked to Hanging Lake.
The Laxson's go for the regular sized caches that are typically loaded with toys. They sign the log book, hide the cache for the next people, and they're off to find another Geocache.
If something is taken out of a cache, then the rule is that you have to put something back in.
When the kids return to school the next day, they have another story of adventure.
