A 45-year-old Fort Collins woman has been sentenced after admitting to having sexual relations with a teenage boy she met at a local "furry" gathering. The furry group enjoys dressing as animals.
This morning a Larimer County judge ordered Richael Michels to be a part of a sex offender supervision program for ten years to life. She also must wear an electronic home monitoring device for 120 days and do 200 hours of public service.
In court, Richael Michels said, "There is no way to justify my behavior with the victim and the pain that I have caused him."
The defense said Michels is bi-polar. It blamed her actions on her illnesss.
Prosecutor, Renee Doak responded saying, "I'm very skeptical about bi-polar as the cause of this... she knew what she was doing, she did it, and she did it over and over."
The woman allegedly wore cat ears to the meetings and admitted kissing the boy and having sexual relations with him. She was arrested in July, though prosecutors have not said what led to her arrest.
Michels will also be required to register as a sex offender.
