Aurora's Neighborhood Services director Nancy Sheffield said the following in a prepared statement the day after the murder of Rodney Morales, an Aurora city code enforcement officer.

"Rodney was a highly valued member of our very close knit team. He was a dedicated professional within our community, known for his ear-to-ear smile and cheerful attitude.

"Those who worked with Rodney have said he was a great code officer who loved what he did, a joy to work with, a true friend, and someone who could always make you laugh with his great sense of humor.

"It was our privilege to work side by side with him, and we miss him dearly. We are very touched by the tremendous outpouring of support from the community, and a memorial fund has been established for those wishing to make donations."
