An 11-year-old boy from Boulder got some much needed rest after quite a week. Matt Moniz climbed 14 of Colorado's tallest peaks -- all to help a sick friend.
Moniz was joined by friends and family in his effort to climb 14 fourteeners. They did it in eight days, wrapping up on Saturday.
Moniz did the climbing for Ian Hess, his best friend. Hess has pulmonary arterial hypertension, a rare lung disease that can cause heart failure.
Moniz said the tougher parts of the climbs were like walking in Hess's shoes.
"I'm like, 'Why am I doing this?' And I got kind of annoyed and I'm like, 'I didn't really want to go on.' I thought of Ian
and I just went right on ahead," Moniz said.
They got to visit some beautiful places and some challenging spots like the Sawtooth Ridge between Mount Evans and Mount Bierstadt.
Moniz has raised $16,000 so far to help Hess.
