240 Ft. Carson Soldiers Return In Time For Holiday

FORT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ― Some of the happiest travelers this Thanksgiving are hundreds of soldiers from Fort Carson.

They arrived home at the Colorado military base Wednesday night -- just in time for the holiday with their families.

The homecoming for 240 soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment was emotional.

The soldiers served 14 months in Iraq. Their duties included reconnaissance and security missions. The squadron flew patrols in OH-58 helicopters, helping ground troops spot roadside bombs and round up insurgents.

Two Fort Carson brigades totaling around 7,000 soldiers remain in Iraq.
